Franzia American Chianti (California)
Price - $12.49 Size - 5.0 L - Tasted at home on May 10, 2005.
I know you've all eyed the cheapest of the cheap boxed wines. Well Franzia makes a very affordable wine for everyday drinking for health or just if you like wine everyday, a good habit in moderation either way. We try to drink wine almost every night and Franzia really is the most wine for the dollar, 5 Liters is just short of 7 bottles of wine. The nose is somewhat fruity with a little hint of alcohol. First impressions are light body, and very tart. It has a decently juicy wine flavor with good acidity but moves to an almost overpowering tartness almost right away. The finish is short and not quite dry enough. It's decent, I may have to try it with a meal to really know if that tartness would prevent me from being able to drink it everyday. Grade: C
