Foris "Fly-Over" Red 1999 (Oregon)

Price - $12.99 Size - 750 mL- Old World vs. New World Wine Tasting held on Monday May 16, 2005 at the Powers Liquor Mart in Colorado Springs with Will Gillum, comparing representative varietals from Old and New World Styles. I posted some thoughts I had before the tasting, and thoughts I had after the tasting.

This Bordeaux style blend is unfiltered (many people believe you can lose a lot of the character of the wine with filtering) and is 53% Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc making up the remaining grapes in the blend. Deep purple coloring with very heavy legs. Has a fruity, jammy nose, reminded me somewhat of grape juice. Deep raspberry and blackberry flavors with a rich mix of fruit. Very deep flavors. Good earthy finish. For more information visit Foris Vineyard Winery website. Grade: A
